The Story of Stuff

I am a massive fan of repurposed stuff. I always have been. I go giddy in the tip shop. Can spend hours in Salvos. And get silly at estate auctions, as if a kid on Christmas morning! I love old things – I love the stories they whisper. I love recreating them into something unique and functional. I love the philosophy of sustainability and frugality that they stand for.

It’s no wonder, then, when I stumbled across local craftsman Razattak upcycled furniture that I fell in love! So much so that I asked him if we could sell his wonders in our studio. Lucky for us he said yes!

Raz’s furniture pieces are handmade, unique and reasonably priced. The gorgeous table behind me is only $189!! Why buy something new when you can reuse beautiful and long-lasting things? Have you seen the 20min movie “Story of Stuff” by the way? (You can watch it here for free – http://storyofstuff.org/movies/story-of-stuff/ ). This is a great little film that talks about excessive waste and the impact on our environment. It also shows how in modern times, things aren’t built to ‘last’ – which of course increases sales of pretty much everything new. Another reason why I love old repurposed furniture – because that stuff is built to last!

p.s. On Saturday we’re holding a workshop where local artist Sarah Mae Beckett will be teaching us how to make charming succulent planters using junk, such as old vintage books, ceramics, and discarded corks. We have a few spots left. Contact us to book in!
