Testing Adrenals

These are my little tubes of spit, currently being analysed in the labs, to assess my adrenal health. As part of the Kalish Functional Medicine protocol which I’m specialising in, adrenals are almost always the first thing I test with a new patient. Why? Because most health issues originate from stress. Re-balancing the adrenals, can help to increase energy levels and balance mood, so that we can then work deeper into healing the gut and the detoxification system.

What are adrenals & Why analyse saliva?

Each person has two adrenal glands both located on top of each of the body’s two kidneys. These glands are important to the body’s endocrine (hormonal) system. Adrenal fatigue is a very common condition in today’s society through the physical and physiological demands we put on our adrenal glands. Each gland is composed of two distinct zones, the large outer cortex and the inner medulla.

Salivary cortisol testing is the most accurate and powerful non-invasive salivary hormone test that evaluates bioactive levels of the body’s important stress hormones, cortisol and DHEA. This hormone test (stress test) serves as a critical tool for uncovering biochemical imbalances underlying anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, dysglycemia, and a host of other clinical conditions that may affect our day to day lives. This hormone test examines 4 saliva samples over a 12-hour period for levels of cortisol and DHEA. The Adrenocortex test should be used as a general screening test as it plays such an important role for a healthy life.

Are you suffering from taxed adrenals?

Adrenal fatigue varies from stage 1 (which often presents with high cortisol levels) to stage 3 (where cortisol levels have dropped dramatically).  Some conditions associated with poor adrenal functioning include:

  • Anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Poor concentration, ‘brain fog’
  • Energy levels
  • Fatigue, lethargy
  • Salt cravings
  • Mild depression
  • Lack of stamina
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Irregular sleeping patterns
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Blood Pressure
  • Depression
  • Impaired Immune System
  • Insomnia

If any of these sound familiar to you, feel free to contact me for some lab assessments and treatment plan. I’m currently being mentored by Dr Daniel Kalish who is one of the world’s best Functional Medicine doctors around, and I discuss all my clients cases and lab tests with him so that we can nut out the best treatment plan for you!

Tomorrow night I’m also running a workshop all about stress, and how you can manage it. You can find more details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/125305601510795/
