Green Beans

Well thank goodness for that…I’ve survived three days symptom-free after introducing beans/peas back into my diet…haha! After last week’s almost-fainting-plus-toilet-dramas-episode after reintroducing eggs, I was a bit nervous to try anything else!

While green beans have some pretty awesome health benefits, they can occasionally cause side effects, such as digestive distress due to the anti-nutrients which make them difficult to digest. They are also high in FODMAPs, which can be an issue for people who are sensitive to FODMAP foods. They are also high in oxalates which can accumulate in the body fluids, crystallise, and lead to health complications such as kidney and gall bladder disease. Oxalates may also hamper the absorption of calcium.

This is not to scare you off from eating broad beans and the like – again, they are a very healthy food! But if you are struggling with issues such as digestive distress or kidney or gall bladder disease, you might want to consider testing them out to see if they are an issue for you.
